Jon Ruben admitted 17 charges at the courthouse on Friday

A person who laced candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his worries.

She said Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.

She said the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five children.
